A thorough preparation for your interview greatly improves your chances of getting that job. The very least you can do is to have answers ready for some of the top interview questions you are sure to be asked.

Questions to discover your personality.
These are normally the, tell us about yourself and what are your strengths type of questions. So many people fail to even prepare an answer to these questions and they sound totally unsure of themselves during an interview.
Make sure you have answers and keep towards what will benefit the company in respect to the job on offer. You can finish up with a very brief comment on more personal topics like what sports you play.
Information about the company and its business.
Make sure you have done some research on the company you are applying to. This makes a great difference when comparing you to other candidates who want your new job. It shows interviewers you are a pro active person who will be an asset and not someone who just waits for answers.
Your ambitions.
If you don't have any ambitions they you don't want to succeed at the job itself so you must be able to tell the interviewer of realistic career goals. Don't overdo it or you just sound stupid or a threatening ladder climber.
As the interview comes to an end, be sure to have some prepared questions for them to answer. Keep these to the job and don't ever ask about the benefits to yourself like pay, vacation or medical coverage.
Your final question should be to ask if you have answered their questions in enough detail or if there is anything else they would like you to clarify. You probably just want to get out of that chair and leave but this last question gives you another chance to put your case to them.
Remember to thank them and use their name when doing so. Too many people forget or just don't bother to use names and if you do, it will be noticed and makes the interviewer more comfortable with you. That might make all the difference.
